Events Connect Communities: A Case Study

Events Connect Communities: A Case Study

Have you ever missed out on an event or important information because you weren't aware of it?

The volume of information available in today's digital age can be overwhelming. With the constant stream of news articles, social media updates, emails, and notifications bombarding us from all directions, it can be difficult to filter out what is truly important and relevant.

Additionally, the speed at which information is disseminated can also contribute to this overwhelming feeling. With the rise of social media platforms and instant messaging apps, news can spread rapidly and sometimes inaccurately, leading to confusion and misinformation.

This is where an events page can make a massive difference.

An events page is a section of your business website or platform dedicated to listing and promoting upcoming events, such as workshops, classes, performances, tours, lectures, and more. It serves as a connection point for your visitors to find information about what is happening at a particular location or in your organization.

If you want to increase involvement in your business events, it is essential to create an events page.

In this study, we will explore the importance of an events page, why people use them, and how an events page will impact your website performance.   We will also examine how our client, The Cincinnati Observatory, used our custom events page module to keep their audience informed and connected during a once-in-a-lifetime event.

The Importance of an Event Calendar

Creating a calendar of events for your business website is key. There are three reasons why it is important to have a calendar of events for your business:

1. Spark user interest. When visitors come to your website and see a calendar filled with upcoming events, it immediately catches their attention. They become curious and want to know more about the events you are organizing. This initial interest can lead to increased engagement and further exploration of your website.

2. Keep users engaged and involved in your business. By providing a schedule of events, you give your audience a reason to stay connected with your brand. They may mark dates in their calendars or set reminders, ensuring they do not miss out on any of your events. This ongoing engagement keeps your business at the forefront of their minds and increases the likelihood of their participation in future events.

3. Keep users coming back for more. People enjoy being part of different activities and experiences. When they know that your website regularly hosts interesting events, they are more likely to return to check for updates and new additions. This not only drives traffic to your website but also creates a loyal and dedicated customer base.

Why Would an Event Calendar Be Utilized?

A calendar of events is a useful tool that allows you to organize and keep track of various activities, appointments, and important dates.
Below, we have outlined and explained four reasons why you would want to utilize an event calendar.

1. Stay organized. By having a centralized location for all your events and appointments, you can easily view your schedule and plan time accordingly. It helps to avoid double bookings or forgetting important engagements, to ensure that you are staying on top of your commitments. For instance, if you write in a calendar that you have a business conference on May 15th, when you schedule another event, you will know to not schedule that event at the same time as your business conference.

2. Prioritize your tasks effectively. You can easily identify time blocks and allocate them to specific activities by seeing their schedule laid out visually. This helps with managing your time better and makes sure that you devote adequate time to important tasks, avoiding last-minute rushes or neglected responsibilities.

3. Easy Registration for the Event: You can schedule reminders or set notifications for upcoming activities, confirming that users can register and never miss any important events. This feature is particularly valuable for professionals who juggle numerous commitments simultaneously.

4. Streamline communication and coordination. Having a calendar can make sharing your schedule easier to do. If you can share your upcoming events from your calendar, it will streamline communication and coordination, reducing the chances of scheduling conflicts.

What does this all mean for your business? If you have an events page on your website, your audience can see when you are hosting events and have time to make plans to attend.

How Cincinnati Observatory Uses an Event Calendar

The Cincinnati Observatory reached out to us because they wanted their audience to be more involved in their events. We helped them create and establish an events page that gives their audience a platform to view upcoming events, and helps the observatory give back to the community.

The Observatory is 180 years old and a historic landmark. They pride themselves on their ability to attract and maintain a diverse group of people ranging from childhood to adulthood.

Community is especially important to them, and they foster this connection by making sure they are the go-to resource for cosmic events and having a wide selection of programs and events for people to attend.

Executive Director Anna Hehman told us, “We have been doing tons of programs, and we want to be the go-to resource for events like the eclipse."

On Cincinnati Observatory’s website, they have a page dedicated to their list of upcoming events, categorized by date, time, cost of the event, and a description of each event. In addition, there is a link where you can go to register for each individual event. View their event page here!

On their event page, they have an upcoming eclipse viewing event on their calendar for their audience to sign up for. The event will take place on March 30th at 1:00 pm and in the description it is stated that this event will instruct on how individuals can safely view the eclipse on April 8th.

The details on the page provide pertinent information to help their audience plan for the event and know what they can expect. This is helpful since it shows that Cincinnati Observatory is being transparent. Transparency establishes trust with your audience.

Moreover, people are more likely to attend events if they know an event is something they are interested in. For example, if your business created an event and did not provide a description or cost for the event, there is a chance an individual may show up without money to pay. Since they do not have money, they cannot attend. That person will be disappointed and less likely to attend another event.

Do not let your audience be disappointed, set up an event calendar to connect with your users.

How an Event Calendar Impacts Your Website Traffic

An event calendar can have a significant impact on your website traffic.

By incorporating an event calendar onto your site, you can effectively increase the content available to your visitors. This means that search engines like Google will have more content to index, potentially improving your search engine rankings.

In addition, having an event calendar helps to keep your site's content fresh. By regularly updating and adding events to your calendar, you are providing new and relevant information for both your current and potential audience. This not only keeps your visitors coming back to your site but also provides a reason for search engines to keep revisiting and indexing your content.

It is important to note that while an event calendar can be a valuable tool for driving website traffic, it is important to keep your content concise and informative. Writing less than 200 words for each event listing ensures that your visitors can quickly and easily understand the details of the event. This approach helps maintain a user-friendly experience while also maximizing the benefits of having an event calendar on your website.

Ultimately, an event calendar can positively impact your website traffic by increasing the content available, keeping the content fresh for search engines like Google, and providing easily digestible information for your audience.
